Defendants:
Anne Marie Bagley, who worked as a nurse in the Winnie Palmer Hospital's Ante Partum Unit (high risk pregnancies), gave birth in the same facility where she worked. The day following her discharge from the hospital, she began to suffer terrible headaches. She was taking Percocet and Tylenol and the headaches still wouldn't go away. She called her anesthesiologist who ruled out her epidural as the source of her headaches. He told her to go see her Ob/GYN. She called and asked to be seen right away. She came in, was seen by the defendant, Amanpreet Bhullar for a few minutes. He diagnosed her with a tension headache and sent her on her way with a prescription for a muscle relaxer. He should have sent her for a CT scan of the head, but failed to do so. The next morning her husband found Ann Marie on the floor. She was rushed to the hospital where it was determined that she had suffered a massive brain bleed. She is left with significant brain damage and is wheel chair bound.
Women are at their greatest risk for postnatal complications during the two week period after giving birth—a topic rarely discussed.
